With inauguration, in Ohrid was put into operation the Center for Mountain Rescue, as part of the project “Lake Ohrid Region – Safe Destination for Adventure Tourism”, financed by European Union funds under the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program between the Republic of North Macedonia and Republic of Albania.
During this event attendance was taken by the EU ambassadors from both neighboring countries Samuel Zbogar and Luigi Soreca, the Minister of Local Self-Government Goran Milevski and the Mayor of Municipality of Ohrid, Konstantin Georgieski.
– The basic precondition regarding development of adventure tourism is providing security and risk management, within a complete tourism product offer. With the whole available equipment, capacity and professional staff this Mountain rescue center will contribute toward improving efficiency of the Mountain Rescue Service and will significantly raise the level of mountaineer’s safety. Under such conditions, our region and our beautiful mountainous landscapes become a safe destination for development of alternative forms of tourism and promotion of mountaineering sports, said Georgieski.
Within the Cross-Border Cooperation Program between the Republic of Northern Macedonia and Republic of Albania as well as the EU Campaign “Creating a Common Future”, today a conference for development of tourism in the cross-border region was held in Ohrid, in which several panel discussions, were held regarding the tourist themes. Also, on the Ohrid square was held a fair presentation of 9 projects that are being implemented with funds from this program.
